Viking Families,

Today, your child is bringing home a take home lanyard letting you know about a safe and easy way for our school to raise funds for essential tools our students and teachers need to succeed.
The Reading for Education fundraiser is 100% online so there is NO face-to-face selling, handling money, or delivering products. Your participation will take less than 12 minutes, and there are exciting prizes to make it fun for the students.

Here is all you need to do to participate:
1. Go to https://www.rfe.net/sid.t?0000196604 to sign up.
2. Send form emails inviting family, friends and co-workers to support your child.
3. Return the Lanyard with the Student Prize Code to school for your child to get their fun participation prize.

Be sure to ask your child for the take home lanyard tonight. Your participation will make a difference for our school and teachers!

Thanks,
Warwood Elementary School

Hello Viking Families, this is Warwood Elementary School Principal, Mr. Demarest. Today, an external lockdown was briefly called on the Warwood campus. This means that there was a potential threat in the vicinity of our school, but not on school grounds. We know this is concerning for parents, so I wanted to offer some transparency: external lockdowns are precautionary and do not affect the flow of the school day, only that students don't go outside during this time. This type of lockdown is often enacted under the recommendation of our police or resource officer due to a local concern. In this case, the Wheeling Police Department alerted us that a suspect fled from them near 11th Street and it was a safety concern. After the suspect had been apprehended, the police department shared that we were safe to lift the external lockdown. All students and staff handled the situation extremely well! I appreciate everyone's patience and concern today.

The External Lockdown at Warwood Elementary has been lifted. There is no longer any concern and our students will continue their day and dismissal as regularly scheduled. Thank you for your cooperation as we work to keep everyone safe!

Warwood Elementary is in a temporary External Lockdown due to a safety issue in the community. All school procedures will continue as normal. Students and staff will remain indoors and any visitors will be met outdoors with proper identification. If your student has an early dismissal, please call the office before arrival. We will update when the external lockdown has been lifted. Thank you

To try to ensure all Elementary and Middle school students are on the correct busses, bus drop off may be delayed by 10-15 minutes. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Drop-Off/Dismissal Procedures

Drop-off: between 8:15 and 8:35 am - classes begin at 8:35
All students (Car Riders, Walkers, and Bus Riders) enter the main entrance of the school (corner of Richland Avenue and Viking Drive). Richland Avenue is closed to other traffic between 8:10-8:35 am. The right lane is reserved for quick drop-off parking. Please continue south on Richland Avenue, as U-turns are dangerous with students present.

Dismissal: 3:30-3:40 pm
Car Riders will leave from the south exit on Richland Avenue. Use all 3 lanes of Richland Avenue, as it is closed to other traffic during dismissal. Please stay in your vehicle at all times. Please continue south after picking up your student.
Walkers will leave from the main entrance. Please, do not park on Richland Avenue in front of the school. U-turns are not permitted, as they are illegal and dangerous with students present.
Bus Riders will leave from the cafeteria exit when their buses are announced. Students in PK-3rd grade must have a trusted adult meet them at the bus stop.

Note: Please keep dismissal time and method consistent to avoid confusion for students. If necessary, please contact the school before 2:30 pm. Please call the school if you have any questions. Thanks!

We had an amazing time celebrating our students' outstanding achievements at the second semester SAIL Awards Assemblies! By embodying the values of Safety, Accountability, and Independent Learning, our Viking community showcased its incredible potential. It was truly inspiring to share this experience with so many families and guests, and we're proud of every single one of our students for their contributions to a phenomenal year!

It is just a few steps away, but our fifth grade Vikings took a big jump yesterday from the world they know at Warwood Elementary over to Warwood Middle School! We had a memorable time reflecting on their accomplishments during our Promotion assembly. They have grown so much this year in all of the ways: socially, academically, and in kindness. Thank you, 5th graders, for your great contributions to our school. We know you’ll do great things as you SAIL into the future!
