Through their reading unit, second grade has been learning all about nutrition and how different foods provide benefits to the body. In math they learned to identify and count money and make change. They had to put those skills to work in an end of unit field trip. Students worked in groups to carefully plan and budget for a healthy snack. The project came to life when they went to Kroger for a nutrition tour and to shop for the items they needed for the snack they planned. Each group had to carefully calculate the cost of their items as they worked to stay in budget. To finish it off, they got to prepare and enjoy their snacks.

We loved welcoming our senior Vikings this afternoon! We’re so proud of you and can’t wait to see you succeed in all you do!

Our second-grade scholars have been busy learning about different biomes. They each chose one to research. They read various books on their biome and took notes on the plants, animals, and landforms found in it. They used their notes to write a report. They then put their creative skills to work to create a diorama of their biome. They were able to share their hard work with staff and students on Friday.

Second grade families enjoyed an evening with Miss Carrie and Mr. B from the Ohio County Public Library. They had the opportunity to sign up for library cards and hear about the summer programs at the library. They also enjoyed several activities, and each child took home a book. Thanks to the OCPL for always being so supportive. They are an amazing resource. Be sure to check out their summer reading programs.

Today they transplanted them into planters to put outside the school. Many of our students have also completed a Green Team Challenge, where they completed ten tasks to help the Earth.

Our students know the game plan: stay focused, use their strategies, and give 100% effort. We’re proud of the hard work happening every day.
To celebrate our GSA Kick-Off Assembly tomorrow, students are invited to wear black and gold—and don’t forget your baseball cap! Let’s show we're ready to knock this test out of the park!
