Warwood School is looking for dedicated and motivated individuals (adults) who are committed to making Warwood School a better place to work, learn, and grow academically. These individual would serve on our Local School Improvement Council. Local School Improvement Councils (LSIC) are required per W.Va. Code § 18-5A-2. These councils exist at each public school in West Virginia. Membership of the LSIC is comprised of teachers, service personnel, bus drivers, parents, business and community representatives. An election will occur annually for membership. The LSIC is directly involved with the operation of the local school in many ways. The LSIC reviews discipline data and procedures yearly and submits written recommendations to the local school board. They encourage involvement of the school community with the school operation through regular LSIC meetings and collaboration. They support local initiative for school improvement by being directly involved with the strategic planning and innovative ideas. We will hold our first LSIC meeting on Monday, September 12th, 2022 at 6pm in the Elementary Cafeteria. At this meeting, we will take nominations for leadership positions within the LSIC, review construction updates, and plan for the new playground. Immediately following the LSIC meeting will be the first Viking Parents meeting of the year. We are going to hold these meetings in conjunction of each other for this school year to increase our productivity while decreasing the times we need to plan to meet. For questions regarding the LSIC or Viking Parents please call the school at 304-243-0375.

Good Morning Warwood Families, This afternoon students in grade 4-8 will be bringing home their scores from the General Summative Assessment (GSA). This is the assessment students take at the end of the academic year to monitor their progress in mastering state content standards. Posted on Schoology are interpretive tools that can help families understand the test results. If you need more assistance in understanding the results please call the school and we can help. These results are important in measuring the academic growth of our students in ensuring they master the necessary skill to have success at the next grade level. We utilize these results to create learning pods to meet students where they are and support them in their growth.

Hello Viking Families! To celebrate Super Bowl week, we want to see your family score your own touchdowns and field goals! Whether your family is cheering on the Rams or Bengals, we are rooting for YOU! We challenge your family to count your reading minutes and convert them to football scoring! Want a touchdown? Read six minutes! Add a field goal point? Read for one more minute! We challenge each member of your family to "score as many points" as possible from Friday evening through Monday evening. With Monday being a Professional Learning Day for teachers, this could give your family ample time to get the competition going. Tally up the scores of your family and please share your experience! The combined score of both teams in the 2021 Super Bowl was just 40 points. Can you beat this score? Put your math skills to the test and share your scores and winning family member in the comments! 6 minutes of reading = 1 touchdown 1 minute of reading = 1 field goal

As you know, reading is crucial to success. Reading boosts vocabulary and literacy skills, improves writing skills, builds confidence and independence, along with many other benefits. Today and every day from here on out, your children will be bringing home a RED folder. This is their Read Every Day folder. We are asking that you help your children commit to at least 10 minutes of reading at home every night. This is the perfect opportunity for your children to enjoy some books of their choice. Any reading material can count toward their minutes read. Please fill out the reading log in the folder every night and return the folder to school each day. To help encourage everyone to stay on track with their reading, we will have a monthly competition. PreK-1 classes will compete against each other for the most books read and grades 2-5 will complete for the most minutes read. We will also be doing some things to encourage more reading in school. We are hoping to help our students develop more of a love for reading and improve reading skills in all our Vikings. Please take this opportunity to enjoy some reading time with your child. We’d love to see our Facebook page flooded with pictures of our families reading together. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Vikings read to succeed!
